Province Launches Plan to Power Ontario’s Growth

  1. Our government’s open for business approach has resulted in unprecedented investments, from electric vehicle and battery manufacturing to critical minerals to green steel, and as a result electricity demand is increasing for the first time since 2005.
  2. We know this trend will continue as our population grows, new industries come online, electric vehicle adoption increases and homes and businesses become more dependent on electricity.
  3. Powering Ontario’s Growth is the next chapter in Ontario’s clean energy story and lays out the plan to provide families and industries with the reliable, low-cost, and clean electricity we need to maintain our position as a leader in job creation and as a magnet for the industries of the future.
  4. Generational decisions, like starting pre-development work for a new nuclear station at Bruce, the first large scale nuclear build since 1993, and advancing three additional small modular reactors at Darlington will provide the dependable clean, green, zero-emissions electricity that businesses around the world are looking for.
  5. Connecting Ontario and opening new regions for clean energy generation through strategic new transmission lines and developing long-duration storage, like pumped hydroelectric, will also be pivotal to ensuring our grid is as efficient as possible.
  6. This builds on the work Ontario has already done to meet demand this decade, with major projects and procurements underway including Canada’s first grid-scale SMR, a $342 million expansion of energy efficiency and the largest energy storage procurement in Canada’s history.
