Province Invests in Largest Indigenous-led Energy Project in Ontario History
- Ontario needs to generate, store, and transmit more power as our province faces unprecedented growth.
- That is why our government is moving forward with the largest Indigenous-led and most far-reaching grid connection project in Ontario history.
- This project will connect over 18,000 people in 16 remote Indigenous communities to Ontario’s clean and reliable electricity grid — delivering affordable energy to more families and communities.
- This project will build 1,500 kilometres of transmission lines and once built, will displace 6.6 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to taking almost 35,000 cars off the road.
- It is estimated that $1 billion will be avoided over the next forty years by ending the community’s reliance on costly and dirty diesel generators.
- With an expected contribution of over $1 billion to Ontario’s GDP and the creation of 1000 good-paying construction jobs for First Nation members, the project demonstrates our government’s dedication to boosting economic growth and creating good jobs in Indigenous and First Nation.
- Our government is focused on generating more clean, reliable, and affordable energy while standing up against the Liberal carbon tax that punishes rural communities the most.
