Province Expanding Hydroelectric Energy Across Northern Ontario

  • Ontario is taking bold action to meet growing energy demands by investing $2 billion to refurbish hydroelectric stations in Northern Ontario, securing 830 MW of affordable, reliable power for 830,000 homes.
  • This project will create over 1,000 good-paying jobs in Northern Ontario, driving economic growth and supporting local families.
  • Refurbishments will add up to 40 MW of clean electricity annually, enough to power 40,000 additional homes, while extending the life of our hydroelectric infrastructure for decades.
  • As part of Ontario’s Affordable Energy Future, our government is also:
    • Building critical transmission lines across Northern Ontario, like the Waasigan and Wataynikaneyap projects, to power growth.
    • Supporting biomass energy facilities to generate clean power and sustain Ontario’s forestry sector.
    • Delivering $10.9 billion in energy efficiency programs, including the Home Renovation Savings Program, to lower costs for families and businesses.
  • Unlike the Liberals, who ignored the North and left Ontarians with skyrocketing hydro rates and no plan, Premier Ford’s government is delivering affordable energy, creating jobs, and securing Ontario’s energy future.
