Ontario Working With Remote First Nations to End Reliance on Diesel for Electricity Generation
- Our government is working with remote First Nation communities in the far north to end their reliance on diesel fuel for electricity generation.
- Working with Webequie, Nibinamik, Neskantaga, Eabametoong and Marten Falls First Nations the province will identify energy supply options that meet each communities unique needs.
- It can also provide significant economic and environmental benefits for communities through emissions reductions, enhanced electricity reliability and economic and partnership opportunities.
- This work builds on the success of the Wataynikaneyap Power Transmission Project which is connecting 16 First Nations communities to the provincial electricity grid.
