Ontario Welcomes $500,000 Donation to Establish New Theranostics Cancer Centre

• Ontario’s nuclear advantage is saving lives — using clean, reliable energy to power next-generation cancer care, strengthen supply chains and showcase Ontario’s leadership on the world stage.
• A $500,000 donation from Laurentis Energy Partners, a subsidiary of OPG, will help establish the Silber Family Theranostics Centre at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, opening in 2027 and delivering early detection and precision therapies to over 3,550 patients by 2028.
• This world-class centre will harness made-in-Ontario medical isotopes — lutetium-177 (Lu-177), yttrium-90 (Y-90), and molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) — to provide faster diagnoses and more effective treatments.
• Ontario’s growing isotope sector supports 8,500 Canadian jobs, strengthens supply chains and positions the province to double isotope production over the next four years — capturing a larger share of a fast-expanding global market and saving millions of lives worldwide.
