Ontario Training Up to 3,775 New Workers for Careers in the Skilled Trades in Belleville
- While previous governments left behind a generational labour shortage in their wake, our government is creating opportunities for young people and jobseekers to start a career in the skilled trades now, while also increasing local training capacity for the long-term.
- Currently, Ontario faces a generational shift in the skilled trades, with many experienced workers retiring and a need for more young people to seize these opportunities. This impact can be felt across the province, including in the Bay of Quinte region.
- Our government is taking action to overcome this challenge by working with labour and industry partners to open up new training and apprenticeship opportunities for Ontario youth, local workers, and jobseekers to build a stronger future for our province.
- We are investing over almost $900,000 in free training programs in Belleville and Bay of Quinte to help up to 3,775 workers and jobseekers prepare for in-demand careers in the skilled trades and other sectors.
- These projects are:
- Ontario East Economic Development Commission: $285,400
- Junior Achievement of Northern & Eastern Ontario: $241,280
- Youth Habilitation Quinte Inc.: $363,500
- Many of the projects that we’re supporting today showcase the diverse careers in Ontario’s 144 skilled trades, from heavy and civil engineering construction to forestry to mining. These projects will provide access to well-paying, highly in-demand, meaningful careers in skilled the trades for hardworking Ontarians.
