Ontario Taking Next Steps to Widen Highway 17 Between Renfrew and Arnprior
February 27, 2026
Our government has issued a Request for Proposals to design the expansion of Highway 17 from two to four lanes between the Town of Renfrew and Arnprior.
Highway 17 is a critical link in the Trans-Canada highway network, connecting communities across Eastern Ontario and keeping people and goods moving.
Today’s announcement will help secure a vital trade corridor, reduce gridlock, and support good-paying jobs during construction.
With interprovincial trade barriers costing Canada up to $200 billion each year, widening Highway 17 is a key part of our plan to protect Ontario by building a stronger, more resilient and self-reliant economy.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is investing $30 billion to build and upgrade roads, highways and bridges, fighting gridlock and keeping workers on the job in the face of tariffs and economic uncertainty.
