Ontario Significantly Increases Support for Indigenous Equity Projects

• Ontario is strengthening Indigenous leadership in the energy sector by increasing annual funding for the Indigenous Energy Support Program by $10 million — a 66% increase — bringing total support to $25 million to power jobs, growth, and reconciliation.
• This enhanced program will back Indigenous-led clean energy projects that improve efficiency, build local capacity, and deliver affordable, reliable, and clean energy solutions across the province.
• A new funding stream of up to $500,000 annual will support diesel-reliant Indigenous communities by helping them expand clean electricity infrastructure and transition away from costly and polluting diesel generators.
• Expanded eligibility allows Indigenous communities to partner on emerging technologies such as battery storage, creating opportunities for innovative projects that strengthen Ontario’s grid and attract investment.
• Indigenous communities are increasingly securing 50/50 equity stakes in major transmission and generation projects, including five new transmission lines that are creating good-paying jobs, advancing reconciliation, and ensuring long-term prosperity.
• Under the leadership of Premier Ford, we are delivering on the commitments we made in Ontario’s first ever integrated energy plan, a roadmap to secure Ontario’s energy future and to meet surging demand across the province.
