Ontario Secures Groundbreaking National Energy Corridor Agreement
March 4, 2026
In a time of global uncertainty, Ontario is leading a Canada-first agreement to build a national energy corridor that strengthens energy security, protects jobs and supports long-term economic growth across the country.
This first-of-its-kind partnership will advance new interprovincial transmission infrastructure and strategic interties to power Canada’s next generation of growth and industrial expansion.
Ontario is leading coordinated action to strengthen connections between provincial and territorial grids, recognizing that as electricity demand rises across Canada, a more integrated and resilient national energy system is essential to long-term reliability and growth.
Expanding east-west and north-south transmission will allow provinces and territories to share clean, reliable electricity more efficiently, reduce duplication and lower long-term system costs.
A more integrated Canadian grid will unlock the full value of Canada’s clean and diverse energy resources while supporting electrification, critical mineral development, and major job-creating investment.
Strengthening internal electricity trade will help ensure Canadian power is used to meet Canadian demand first, reinforcing national energy security and economic self-reliance.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, Ontario is taking decisive action to build nation-building energy infrastructure and position Canada as an energy superpower for decades to come.
