Ontario Secures Agreement to Advance World’s Largest Nuclear Generating Station
February 15, 2026
In a time of global uncertainty and rising electricity demand, Ontario is advancing large-scale, Canadian-built nuclear generation that will put over 10,000 people to work.
The Wesleyville project represents one of the largest economic opportunities in Ontario’s history and is expected to contribute approximately $235 billion to the provincial economy.
Ontario is doubling down on our strengths — nuclear is a homegrown success story, with over 90% of investment “Made in Canada” and a strong track record of building on time and on budget.
Ontario has signed a partnership agreement with the Municipality of Port Hope, a critical step forward to advance new nuclear generation at the Wesleyville site. This includes $4.5 million in growth-readiness funding to support the community’s preparation as a potential host municipality.
With the potential to deliver up to 10,000 megawatts of clean, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power — enough to supply the equivalent of 10 million homes — Wesleyville would anchor Ontario’s electricity system as demand continues to grow.
With Ontario refurbishing its nuclear fleet and delivering the first small modular reactor in the G7, advancing Wesleyville ensures the province has the reliable power needed to support new housing, advanced manufacturing, and major job-creating investment.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, Ontario has a plan to build for future generations — on-time and on-budget.
