Ontario Releases Accelerated Plan to Complete Construction on Roads to the Ring of Fire Five Years Ahead of Schedule

March 2, 2026

Unlocking Ontario’s vast supply of critical minerals in the Ring of Fire is at the heart of our plan to protect Ontario and build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.

Today’s accelerated schedule to complete construction on roads to the Ring of Fire and historic economic agreements with our First Nations partners will see roads to the Ring of Fire begin to open in 2030, five years ahead of schedule.

Once complete, the four road segments to the Ring of Fire will connect First Nations to the provincial highway network, improve access to essential goods and services and provide reliable access to the area that is critical to the development in the region.

Ontario has also signed new economic partnerships with Marten Falls First Nation and Webequie First Nation, reaffirming our shared commitment to ensure First Nations are full partners in the economic development of the Ring of Fire.

The Ring of Fire is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create more than 70,000 jobs, make Ontario a critical minerals superpower and add $22 billion to the province’s economy over the next 30 years.
