Ontario Reducing Wait Times for Orthopedic Surgeries
December 8, 2025
Our government is continuing to take bold action to reduce wait times and connect patients to best-in-class health-care solutions, helping more Ontarians live fuller, more active lives.
Ontario already has the shortest surgical wait times in Canada, and this expansion will further reduce waits and deliver more connected, convenient care as part of the government’s plan protect Ontario’s health-care system.
Our $125 million expansion in services will bring down wait times for orthopedic surgeries, such as hip and knee replacements, ensuring that 90 per cent of patients receive care within clinically recommended timeframes.
Today’s announcement builds on our government’s previous investments including:
- $155 million investment to add 57 community surgical and diagnostic centres to connect over 1.2 million people to MRI and CT scans and GI endoscopy services.
- $235 million investment to support over 130 new and expanded primary care teams that will connect 300,000 people to care this year.
All community surgical and diagnostic centres are under the oversight of Accreditation Canada’s new quality-assurance program, which applies similar requirements of public hospitals to ensure consistent patient safety and quality care.
