Ontario Opens First Nine Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment Hubs
- Communities, parents and families across Ontario have made it clear that drug injection sites near schools and child-care centres were making communities less safe.
- That is why our government has taken the next step and has successfully transitioned 9 drug injection sites located within 200 metres of schools and licensed child-care centres into Homelessness and Addiction Recovery (HART) Hubs as of today, April 1st.
- These Hubs, located in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, and Thunder Bay, are part of our government’s $550 million investment to create 28 new HART Hubs across the province to protect the safety of children and families while improving access to recovery and treatment.
- HART Hubs will reflect regional priorities by connecting people with complex needs to comprehensive mental health support and additions care.
- HART Hubs will also add an estimated 560 highly supportive housing units, in addition to addiction recovery and treatment beds, which will help people transition to more stable long-term housing.
- In addition to the nine sites that successfully transitioned into HART Hubs, 19 HART Hubs were chosen as a result of a province-wide call for proposals.
- As a model focused on providing treatment and recovery, HART Hubs cannot offer drug consumption services and partner organizations are prohibited from seeking alternative funding for the purpose of offering drug consumption services at their Hub site, or any other location.
