Ontario Marks One Year Milestone in Primary Care Action Plan
January 12, 2026
Our government is protecting Ontario’s health-care system and leading the country with investments that reduce wait times and connect more people to a primary care provider.
Today marks one year of progress on our $2.1 billion Primary Care Action Plan, which is already delivering results by connecting over 275,000 new patients to a primary care provider, the highest rate of access in Canada.
As the plan continues to hit its targets, the province is on track to connect every Ontario resident to a primary care provider by 2029.
While Ontario continues to lead the country in access to care, the province has set clear goals to close the remaining gap, starting with the Health Care Connect waitlist which has been reduced by more than 75 per cent as of this week.
Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, our government continues to take bold and decisive action to grow the province’s highly skilled health-care workforce and ensure people and their families have access to high-quality care, closer to home, for generations to come.
