- Wetlands make communities more resilient. They act as natural infrastructure that protects our homes and businesses against drought and flooding, cleans our water and creates habitat for a variety of wildlife.
- That is why our government is making historic investments in wetland restoration and enhancement to protect vital water resources, support biodiversity and build natural infrastructure across the province through the Wetlands Conservation Partner Program.
- Our additional funding will support a wide range of projects that restore and enhance wetlands of all sizes, with a focus on Great Lakes coastal wetlands, ecoregions that have experienced significant ongoing loss and wetlands in more urban areas as part of municipal stormwater management.
- Since 2020, approximately 590 wetland projects have restored and enhanced approximately 9,900 acres of wetlands. Over the next two years, these projects will bring the government’s total investment in wetlands restoration and enhancement through the Wetlands Conservation Partner Program to nearly $41 million.
Applications are now open for eligible organizations — including municipalities, conservation authorities, conservation organizations and Indigenous communities — to apply for funding by October 8th.
