Ontario Investing $83 Million to Support Affordable Student Housing in Downtown Toronto
November 17, 2025
Amid global uncertainty, our government is protecting Ontario’s future by building housing that meets the unique needs of our growing province.
Through the Building Ontario Fund, we are bringing together the best of the public, private and philanthropic sectors to accelerate investments in high-impact, revenue-generating infrastructure projects in our province that would otherwise not get built.
We are investing $83 million to build a new student residence at Toronto Metropolitan University, making student housing in Toronto more affordable, revitalizing the downtown core and helping ensure that Ontario remains one of the best places in the world to study, work and live.
The new, 21-storey residence, located at 100 Bond Street, will add nearly 1,400 new student beds in the heart of downtown Toronto, doubling on-campus housing capacity and providing affordable accommodation options that are well below average Toronto rents.
Pre-construction is expected to begin in late 2025 and is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by making life more affordable for students and strengthening the province’s world-class publicly funded colleges and universities.
