Ontario Investing $7 Million to Grow Critical Minerals Supply Chain

July 23, 2025
  • With global demand for critical minerals soaring – and new U.S. tariffs targeting Canada’s mining and manufacturing sectors, our government is taking bold action — putting Ontario workers and our economic security first.
  • As part of our plan to protect Ontario, we’re investing more than $7 million to launch a new intake of the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF) — accelerating made-in-Ontario technologies that will hep grow the critical minerals supply chain and position Ontario as a global leader in responsibly sourced minerals.
  • This investment will support innovation in deep exploration, mineral recovery, battery supply chains and mining technology — helping Ontario companies turn ideas into real-world solutions that grow the economy and attract investments that create good-paying jobs here at home.
  • The CMIF helps cover up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $500,000 per project — building on the success of the first two intakes, which supported 29 Ontario-based innovation projects.
  • Unlike the opposition, who oppose responsible resource development and stall progress with red tape, we’re building a cleaner, stronger, more self-reliant Ontario — one that leads the world in critical minerals and clean technology.
