Ontario Investing $6.4 Billion to Support Postsecondary Sector’s Long-Term Success and Sustainability
February 15, 2026
In order to protect our province, it is imperative that we continue to train a strong, highly skilled workforce for Ontario for decades to come.
Our government is taking action now by adding $6.4 billion of new funding for the postsecondary sector, on top of the $5 billion we invest every year, ensuring our students can get the skills they need to launch good paying, in-demand careers.
This will bring our annual funding up by 30 per cent to $7 billion, and fund 70,000 more seats in fields that students want, and our economy needs.
We have stepped up for the postsecondary sector with additional funding time and time again since the federal government’s destabilization of the sector, and our new funding model ensures that our colleges, universities, and Indigenous Institutes have sustainable funding for decades to come.
We will protect student access to the education they need to land rewarding, in-demand careers and ensure the province’s world-class institutions can continue producing one of the most competitive workforces in the G7 for generations to come.
