Ontario Introducing Legislation to Protect Ontario by Cutting Red Tape and Supporting Workers

April 20, 2026

The Protecting Ontario’s Workers and Economic Resiliency (POWER) Act is the next chapter in our government’s plan to protect Ontario.

We’re fortifying our economy by eliminating needless red tape, boosting our competitive advantage and strengthening our economic resilience in the face of global uncertainty.

Our proposed legislation would transform Ontario’s permitting process, strengthen our support for workers, and make it easier and faster for businesses to invest, grow and succeed right here at home.

Ontario is on track to meeting its target to review all business-facing permits by the end of 2028, with the goal of eliminating or transforming 35 per cent – a major improvement for people and businesses in our province.

Ontario has the lowest regulatory burden per capita in the nation, saving people and businesses $1.3 billion and 1.8 million hours since 2018 while still safeguarding public health and our environment.

This is how we make life easier and more affordable. This is how we keep people safe and our economy strong. This is how we Protect Ontario.
