Ontario Fast-Tracks First Project Under New ‘One Project, One Process’
October 29, 2025
Our government is streamlining mine approvals through the new ‘One Project, One Process’ (1P1P) framework — cutting permitting timelines by 50% to get critical projects built faster and strengthen Ontario’s economy.
Frontier Lithium’s PAK Project is the first project to move forward under 1P1P and will be Ontario’s first lithium project — fast-tracking development and anchoring a made-in-Ontario critical minerals supply chain.
Our government is supporting the creation of Canada’s first-of-its-kind fully integrated lithium operation, linking mining, refining, and battery manufacturing — including plans for a lithium refinery in Thunder Bay, the first of its kind in North America.
To power this growth, Ontario is beginning engagement with local stakeholders and Indigenous communities to streamline development of $830 million in new transmission upgrades in the Red Lake Region, including a new 230-kilovolt transmission line delivering 450 megawatts of new power to unlock northern projects and community growth.
This transmission and mine development will support transformative investments, including:
- PAK Project: expected to generate $11 billion in net revenue over a 31-year mine life and support approximately 230 jobs during operations.
- Great Bear Project: representing a $1.9 billion capital investment and supporting over 900 jobs during operations.
Under Premier Ford’s leadership, our government is creating good-paying jobs, advancing Indigenous partnerships and strengthening Canada’s position as an alternative to China in the global critical minerals market — building a self-reliant, competitive, and resource-secure economy for generations to come.
