Ontario Delivering Results in Fight Against Auto Theft

Since we invested $51 million, over the past three years, to support initiatives like the Preventing Auto Thefts (PAT) Grant Program, the Provincial Auto Theft and Towing Team and the Major Auto Theft Prosecution Response Team, motor vehicle theft has declined significantly in Ontario.

According to Équité Association, vehicle thefts in Ontario are down 36 per cent, from more than 30,000 in 2023 to approximately 19,300 in 2025.

In the first half of 2026, 8.4 per cent fewer vehicles were stolen across Ontario, compared to the same period in 2025.

To continue this downward trend, our government is investing an additional $6 million through the PAT Grant, giving frontline officers more tools to disrupt criminal networks and recover stolen vehicles.

Since launching the PAT Grant Program in 2023, our government has invested $24 million to help police investigate auto theft, disrupt criminal networks and recover stolen vehicles.
