January 28, 2026
  • With President Trump’s economic assault on our country, our government is taking decisive action to protect our economy by both build and accelerating the construction of the Greenstone Transmission Line that will power the Ring of Fire.
  • The project will create over 7,000 jobs, enabling a $22 billion gain to Ontario’s GDP by unlocking the Ring of Fire, one of the most promising mineral development opportunities in the world.
  • The 230-kilometre Greenstone Transmission Line will deliver clean, reliable electricity from Nipigon Bay to near Aroland First Nation, enabling new mining development, generation opportunities and economic growth in the North.
  • Electricity demand in northern Ontario is projected to increase by 81 per cent by 2050, making new transmission infrastructure essential to support resource development, housing, and electrification.
  • Ontario is advancing economic reconciliation by working in partnership with First Nations, including Indigenous leadership in decision-making and up to 50 per cent ownership through Hydro One’s Indigenous Equity Partnership Model, while reducing reliance on diesel in remote communities.
  • Under the leadership of Premier Ford, Ontario is planning ahead—building new roads, transmission lines and infrastructure that will transform our economy, bolster our sovereignty and deliver an economic legacy for generations of Canadians.
