Ontario Building New Transmission Lines to Power Growth Across the Province

June 6, 2025
  • Ontario is growing fast and so is our energy demand. That’s why we’re planning early and building one of the largest expansions of transmission infrastructure in the province’s history.
  • The four projects include two new lines (Bowmanville–Toronto and Windsor–Lakeshore) and two major upgrades (Orangeville–Barrie and Manby–Riverside).
  • These projects will support job creation in sectors like auto manufacturing and agri-food, particularly in high-growth regions like Windsor-Essex and Toronto.
  • We are also reinforcing our strong support for meaningful Indigenous engagement by backing Hydro One’s commitment to offering 50-50 equity partnerships to Indigenous communities on new transmission line projects— supporting meaningful economic reconciliation and long-term benefits.
  • Together, these projects represent bold action by our government to build the infrastructure needed to power economic growth, protect jobs and secure Ontario’s clean energy future.
  • These actions are part of Ontario’s first Integrated Energy Plan — being released later this month — to protect Ontario by significantly expanding energy infrastructure to secure reliable and affordable energy that can power economic growth and reduce Ontario’s reliance on energy providers from outside the province.
