Ontario Breaks Ground on Scarborough Centre Subway Station
September 5, 2025
The Scarborough Subway Extension is a gamechanger for the people of Scarborough, bringing 38,000 riders within walking distance of transit and making it easier than ever before for commuters to get around quickly and conveniently.
In the face of U.S. tariff threats, construction of the Scarborough Subway Extension will keep 3,000 workers on the job each year, supporting thousands of skilled trades workers and attracting new jobs and investment in Scarborough and across the province.
Crews have started construction at Scarborough Centre Station, which will accommodate more than 10,000 passengers and facilitate over 7,000 transfers during rush hour. The station will also include a new bus terminal with passenger pickup and drop-off spaces so riders can easily transfer between local buses and the new subway line.
Scarborough Centre Station will be a major hub for the region, connecting the subway with the GO Transit bus network and other local services. By making it easier to connect across the GTA, this new interchange will shorten travel times for nearly 30,000 students and staff at Centennial College Progress Campus and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.
As part of the Transportation Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, the province is delivering the largest transit expansion in Canadian history with the Ontario Line, Scarborough Subway Extension, Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and Yonge North Subway Extension.
