Ontario Boosting Fish Populations
- The Ontario government is investing over $75 million for improvements to three fish culture stations across the provincebetter meet the needs of Ontario’s fish culture and stocking program.
- Those fish culture stations are:
- Blue Jay Creek Fish Culture Station
- Hill’s Lake Fish Culture Station
- North Bay Fish Culture Station
- Upgrades include replacing aging infrastructure with modern equipment, improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness, reducing energy consumption, and providing additional production capacity allowing fish to grow larger.
- At peak times in the season, these stations hold as many as 20 million fish which have been raised to stock Ontario’s lakes and rivers.
- Our Northern lakes and rivers bring in over 400,000 anglers annually and this investment will contribute to sustainable fish populations while adding to the economic and social benefits of fishing in Ontario.
- This investment is part of the government’s plan to build Ontario by expanding and renewing critical infrastructure, with investments of more than $191 billion over the next 10 years.
