Ontario and New York Sign Agreement to Build Nuclear Energy and Grow Economies
December 19, 2025
Premier Ford and Governor Hochul signed an agreement to work together to advance clean, reliable and affordable nuclear energy and create good-paying jobs on both sides of the border.
As a global nuclear leader, Ontario is home to the first grid-scale SMR under construction in the G7, three nuclear generating stations and a proven record of delivering large-scale projects on-time and on-budget.
Ontario and New York already benefit from a strong, reliable cross-border energy relationship, operating seven interties with a total combined transfer capability of approximately 2,500 MW, supporting two-way electricity trade and grid reliability.
New York’s commitment to develop at least 1,000 MW of new nuclear generation creates significant opportunities for Ontario’s nuclear workforce, manufacturers and supply chain.
Under Premier Ford’s leadership, Ontario is leading the world in nuclear innovation — exporting expertise, creating good-paying jobs, strengthening supply chains and delivering clean, reliable power that families and businesses can count on for generations to come.
