Ontario Advancing Innovation in the Life Sciences

Ontario is home to a thriving life sciences sector, employing more than 74,000 people in high-value jobs across close to 2,000 firms, with annual exports exceeding $11.8 billion.
As part of Phase 2 of Ontario’s Life Sciences Strategy, the $24 million Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund is strengthening Ontario’s life sciences supply chain, supporting home-grown innovators as they scale, and helping improve care for patients here and around the world.
Intellijoint Surgical Inc., a leading provider of orthopaedic medical technologies, is investing $1.3 million to enhance production capabilities by leveraging artificial intelligence and automation. The project is supported by nearly $450,000 in funding through the LSSUF and will create three new jobs.
Vena Medical, a manufacturer of intravascular imaging devices used by physicians to support stroke intervention, is investing $4.5 million to establish a new, state-of-the-art facility that will reshore the production of their AI-powered micro-camera to Kitchener. The project is supported with nearly $1.5 million in funding through the LSSUF and will create 13 new jobs.
Since 2018, Ontario has attracted over $6 billion in life sciences investments, creating 6,700 good-paying jobs.
