Letter to Child Care Operators
April 23, 2025
· Through the Canada-Wide Early Learning & Child Care Agreement our government has already lowered fees by 50 per cent, providing savings of up to $10,000 for families and have created thousands of new childcare spaces across the province.
· However, the current term of the federal child care initiative is coming to an end on March 31, 2026.
· We have informed the federal government that we would like to see an extension of the program that would allow the province to succeed in achieving $10/day child care beyond March 31, 2026, and we remain committed to our share of the funding to ensure families continue to receive the support they need.
· To date, the federal government has not indicated its willingness to fully fund its portion to deliver on its promise of $10/day child care in Ontario.
· If the federal government does not commit to a fair deal, families could see fees rise above $22/day starting April 1, 2026.
· We are hopeful that the federal government will step up with stable and adequate funding, and we will continue to advocate for parents and families for a fair deal that will get child care fees down to $10 per day and create the affordable spaces we need.
