Increasing School Board Accountability to Protect Students, Families and Taxpayer Funds

• While our government is making record investments in public education, we will be relentless in ensuring school boards stay focused on what matters most: equipping students with the tools they need to succeed.

• We have a troubling new trend in the education sector, with boards making bad choices on how to spend funding meant to support our students and teachers.

• In response to a number of cases of financial mismanagement by school boards, we are taking immediate action to address failures at several boards to increase accountability and ensure they are focused on improving student outcomes, so students are able to acquire the skills and knowledge they need to prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.

• The province will closely monitor the results of these measures and is prepared to take additional action to ensure all school boards are focused on delivering high-quality education as part of its plan to protect Ontario with a back-to-basics approach that prepares students and our workforce for whatever comes our way.
