Cutting Fees and Taxes to Save Homebuyers Money

Our government is lowering the cost to build, creating the conditions to drive up housing supply and saving homebuyers money.

We know that for many, homeownership is still the quintessential Canadian dream, and we are working to ensure more people can make this dream a reality.

In March, Ontario and Canada signed the historic Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build.

  • Through this agreement, up to $8.8 billion over 10 years is also being made available for housing-enabling infrastructure projects. This is primarily through the Development Charge Reduction Program, which supports housing-enabling infrastructure projects in municipalities that reduce development charges by 30 to 50 percent or more and maintain these reductions for at least three years.

Collectively, these measures are saving homebuyers up to $200,000 off the cost of a new home.

Already, we have seen great success: a report by BILD and the OHBA found that home sales rose 130% year over year in the second quarter of 2026.

We will continue to work with our federal and municipal partners to make the dream of home ownership a reality.
