Asahi Kasei Breaks Ground on EV Battery Separator Plant in Port Colborne

  • Asahi Kasei’s $1.7 billion investment will build Canada’s first EV battery separator plant in Port Colborne, creating more than 300 good-paying jobs in the region.
  • Asahi Kasei Corporation and Honda Motor Co. have created a joint venture company to oversee construction and production activities at the separator facility.
  • This investment is a significant part of Ontario’s growing end-to-end EV and battery supply chain. With phase one expected to be complete in 2027, the separator plant is projected to produce enough material to supply approximately one million EVs annually.
  • Over the past four years, we have attracted more than $45 billion in new investments in auto and EV manufacturing.
  • This project is another vote of confidence in our ongoing work to establish Ontario as a leader in the EV sector.
